Jan 27-28/09

Jan 27/09

A good day overall. I’m going on a work trip to Vancouver at the end of February and I have a few mini-goals set to meet before that trip

1) lose 5lbs – I don’t know how I’m going to accomplish this without a MAJOR overhaul of my eating habits so I guess I’m going to have to suck it up and get in line at the salad bar
2) do not drink until we land in Vancouver. This should be easy so long as my social calendar remains relatively blank as it is now.

B: Oatmeal, flaxseed, golden sugar, blueberries
EX: 30 min CURVES
S: coffee
L: Leftover curried beef stew with chickpeas, carrots, onion, celery
S: Yogurt
D: Curried cauliflower soup, multigrain roll with butter, Caesar salad, ¼ granny smith apple (sharzies with my kid)
S: I ate something… chocolate? I can’t remember
H20: Over 2L

Jan 28/09

So I made those mini-goals on this day and started to do something about it (kinda – see my weakness later in the evening)

B: Oatmeal, flaxseed, golden sugar, ½ apple
S: Coffee, yogurt
EX: 30 min CURVES
L: Ham on a multigrain roll, yogurt
S: Handful of Almonds
D (Ate at my parents as hubs went to spinning class): Chicken goulash – chicken breast, carrots, rice, noodles. Jello, 1x chocolate chip cookie, tea (I have NO control when I’m with my folks!)
EX: 25 min run on the treadmill for 3.22km
S: Chocolate marshmallow Santa thing from my kids stocking. It was stale. Handful of rice crackers
H20: Over 2L

So, I know where I go wrong – night snacking! I honestly do not think I do very badly with eating. I dunno, maybe I should track my stuff on a website or something. BAH! I get the less in, more out concept. I just need to get on board I guess.

Jan 26/09

I’m feeling good about this day!

B: Oatmeal with flax seeds, blueberries, brown sugar and milk, coffee
L: Mixed green salad, ham sandwich on multigrain bun
S: Grapefruit, 100 calorie chocolate bar
D: Curried beef with chickpeas, carrots, onions and celery served over jasmine rice
Ex: 40 mins on the treadmill. 5.15km total
H20: Over 2L

I did not want to get on the treadmill at all last night. In fact I offered hubs first crack at it, but as soon as he ‘fessed up that he was not going to go for a run, I headed to the basement and took on the task. The pride I felt upon completion is immense. I’m pretty damn proud that I keep running. I had the same nagging feeling in my knee/ankle last night, but nothing worth stopping for. I’ve been reading some things about running lately and I know that some pain just needs to bear running though. I hope this is that kind and not a symptom of a larger problem.

Jan 25/09

I’ve got to say that I’m feeling good about the way things are going for me and my fitness plan. Yes, I have yet to lose any real weight, but at least I’m sticking to the exercise part!

B (really this was brunch at around 10am post church): Scrambled egg, cheese and ham on a bun, 1 hashbrown, 1.5x beef sausage, 2x coffee
Ex: Ran around with the kid at an indoor playplace!
S: ¾ granny smith apple
Ex: 40 mins treadmill, 5.15km! I ran at 5.5 for a while, then 5.0 then ended at 5.5 again! I made it to 5km in 37.5 minutes! Woot! I felt like a champion!
S: Wheat thins, about 25.
D: Kickin’ Chicken from Eat, Shrink and be Merry, jasmine rice, corn
S: 100 calorie bag of popcorn

H20: Over 2L

My right knee gave me a wee bit of grief yesterday. Nothing that I had to stop over, but enough that I felt it for a while. My feet also seemed to hurt a bit. I should likely get some new runners/new orthotics especially if I’m going to run outside once the weather is better. There is a running room in my building so perhaps a little trip is in order. They will have to come out of next month’s budget though.

Jan 22-24/09

I'll try to do what I can remember... It may not be much.

Jan 22
B: Cranberry Almond Crisp cereal, Coffee
L: Turkey Soup - Homemade
S: Yogurt and Grapes
D: Leftover veggie pizza
S: 1 pint of beer
H20: 2L

No exercise because I could not fit it into my work day and I had a meeting with my ladies softball executive in the evening so it was too late to run once I got home.

Jan 23
I was in training all day and then went out to a concert. It was bad.
B: Fruit plate, yogurt with granola, mini croissant, 2x coffee
L: Salad and veggie lasagna, 2 small pastries
D: Poutine made with rib meat and blue cheese! MMMMMMMMM!
H20: 1.5L

1 shot tequila.
Say 8-10 beers. I'm not sure because I had two of those MASSIVE beers at the ACC.

Jan 24
B: Small bowl of Cheerios, banana, coffee
L: Pea Soup, 1/2 granny smith apple
S: 2x Lindor Lindt
Ex: 20 minute Yoga program - better than nothing!
D: Homemade hamburger and fries and caesar salad. Glass of milk and 2x ginger cookies!
H20: 2L

Today was a great eating day for my kid. Normally he will not eat veggies or meat and today he ate pea soup, some granny smith apple, 1/2 a hamburger and homemade fries which were more like wedges! I'm so proud!

Tomorrow, I get back on the treadmill.

My goodness the treadmill felt S L O W last night at 4.9! I ran two 2 minute 5.5 pace sprints at the beginning and end of the work out which was nice. I’m going to have to invest in some proper shoes though as my feet are starting to hurt/get blisters.

Jan 18/09

I am a rock star. More on that later.

B: 1 slice toast with Peanut Butter. The kid stole the other slice. Coffee x2
L: Small multigrain roll with salami, yogurt, grapes
Ex: 40 mins on the treadmill. 4.5km total. Ran 30 mins straight at 4.9 pace
S: 15x Wheat Thins
D: Salmon, jasmine rice (SO good. I don’t know why I’ve never bought this kind of rice before), asparagus. 2x Laura Secord chocolate pieces – the box is gone now
S: NIBS. They are gone now. Thank goodness.

Ah yes. The Rock Star! I can’t believe I ran so long and for so far! IEEEEE!!!! I’m so happy! Basically I forced the husband to hook up the old TV in front of our basement treadmill. I put on a hockey game and ran and ran. I just found it so much easier to keep going and even the time counting down to the second intermission didn’t bother me. I’m hoping that I can keep this up. I feel pretty impatient to get to 5km, but I know that taking my time and increasing my speed/distance is the only way to go. I am going to attempt another 40 mins on Monday night (with Huge Laurie – ah, Dr. Greg House) and see what I can do. The very crazy thing is that last spring I tried to do a learn to run program running exclusively outside. I had to drop out of it (it was an online thing, no fees) because I had crazy, hurtful shin splints and could not walk (nor play baseball). I’ve not felt a damn thing since I began with the treadmill. I know most people prefer the outdoors, but I’ve got to say I’m loving my treadmill more and more every time I run.

Jan 16/09

I've had a stellar week, if I do say so myself (uh, minus the boozy Tuesday!), I worked out every day in some way and pretty much stuck to the diet. I guess I never hardcore stick to the diet and that's my problem though.

Ex: 30 min Curves
L: Mixed greens salad, handful of almonds, yogurt, grapes

Jan 9/09

Like always I started the week off strong and ended on a low note. I guess I'm really only good for 4-5 days of pure motivation and will power because I ALWAYS seem to get screwed up by the end of the work week. I actually find it quite a bit easier to get on the treadmill in the middle of the afternoon while my kid naps on the weekend and once I've worked out, I usually am pretty good at keeping on track food wise. AH. I guess this is an issue (willpower) that I need to tackle.

B: Yogurt
S: Granola bar, coffee
L: Lasagna (homemade)
S: Licorice
D: Mixed greens and tuna casserole, cup of tea (at my parents - no cookies or jello or ice cream had though!)
S: Chips, 3x red wine (from the box! I'm slowly finishing it... it doesn't go sour at all... crazy, eh? Its been open since Dec 6/08).

Ex: Nada. I should have went to Curves on lunch but work was busy and I had to leave early for the kid's 2yr appointment so I just worked through.

Jan 6/09

A GREAT day! Woot! I just need to keep the momentum going and going.

B: Yoghurt
Ex: Curves 30 mins – I dragged it this AM, I didn’t sleep well and was a bit sore from my run the night before, but I stuck it out and of course am glad that I did.
B #2: Homemade banana muffin, coffee
L: Leftover Sheppard’s pie
S: Handful of Almonds, 2x Lindt Lindors (I get multiple bags of these tasty treats every year thanks to hubs and the Mother in Law and I love to save them as treats for my lunch bag)
D: Lasagna (freezer meal #3 for the week), 1.5 ginger cookies (my kid robbed the other ½), glass of milk, cup of tea (I was FROZEN!).

H2O: Over 2L

Ironic: While watching the Biggest Loser and then Ruby last night, I was really snacky. I thought of my cupboard with its chips and popcorn (holiday leftovers) and even thought of the wheat thins, but decided to drink a glass of water instead as I was not hungry at all (a late dinner due to a delayed train will do that to a gal). I wonder if those people who watch these shows while pigging out understand the irony of what they do.

Hubs got on the treadmill after TBL as well. Yippee for full blown momentum in the house! We just need to keep it up!

Jan 5/09

Back to work today and back to the routine. It is funny how we all wish for vacation and CAN’T WAIT for vacation and by the end of it, we are just SO HAPPY to be back to the routine of daily living. I know that this routine helps to keep my eating in check, for sure!

B: Oatmeal with Flax seed, coffee
S: Homemade banana muffin
L: Ground beef and potato curry, yoghurt
S: two Lindt Lindor chocolates and handful of almonds
S: Clementine – a horrible one too
D: Sheppard’s Pie (freezer meal!)
Ex: 30 min on the treadmill (more on that later)
S: Handful of Wheat Thin Crackers – likely about 15

H2O: Over 2L

Ah the thrill of the run. I don’t know why I decided to set a goal of running 5k in 30 minutes. I’ve no doubt been inspired by Marlene who writes a blog I just began to read before the holidays. You know, I’ve always insisted that I’m not a runner, but here I am gearing up to run a milestone. Odd. So far, I’m getting 3.4k done in 30 minutes. The pace I’m using on my treadmill is one that I’m going to stick with for the balance of the month and then I’m going to up it a bit. I have a program that will allow me to set the distance and just run it, but I like setting the time. I know I can do anything for 30 minutes. I run for about 25 of those, warming up and cooling down with a brisk walk before and after. So far my iPod has been on DMB, Live at Central Park, CD#2, tracks 1-4 (which is just perfect for 30 minutes), but I think I’ll have to find some more running tunes soon. I aspire to get outside on the road in the spring and to actually run a 5k race sometime this year. Crazy! I’m not even a runner.

Weigh-in

150.4lbs!

Woot!

This means I LOST weight over the holidays! I guess not drinking beer will help! And 150! I'm never going back, baby!

Jan 4/09

Tomorrow is the real start of the re-joiner to the health world, but I did my best today:

B: Banana muffin (homemade), coffee - I was up early and went to church (a mini resolution to keep!)
Ex: Cleaning for 1.5 hours - if that isn't exercise, then why do I sweat when I do it?
L: Brie, crackers, olives, clementine
S: cheese and crackers (I guess I was on a cracker roll)
D: Mixed salad with balsamic and ground beef and potato curry (Super Yum - and a meal from the freezer! We are eating all freezer meals this week).
S: Uh, 5 Quality Street. I discovered the caramel kind. Whoops.

H20: about 2L, give or take

Sunday, January 4, 2009

Jan 3/09

Bad day full of leftovers.

B: Cereal - cranberry almond crunch, coffee
L: Brie, olives, crackers, clementine
S: Ketchup chips. Tea.
D: Veal parmesan with spaghetti (catelli smart) - we forgot to eat the salad

S: 3 glasses of white wine

H20: No idea.

Jan 2/09

Yup, back at it now. I took some time off, because I was off and it was the holiday's and I stuffed my face full of crap! YUM. I likely put weight on, but I'll find that out on Monday. For now, here is what the second day of 2009 looked like in terms of food and me:

B: Clementine, coffee - I meant to eat more, but I got distracted by playing cars with my kid
L: Crackers, olives, salami, brie - I LOVE holiday left overs, yogurt
Ex: 30 min and 3.4 KM on treadmill (working to 5K in 30 min)
D: Fish and chips and real mushy peas with the folks - found a great new place in town. Also ate a piece of real Scotch bread. YUM. Cup of tea, 1/2 piece of cake (working on those holiday left overs).
S: Glass of white wine (NYE left over)

H20: 1.3L or so. Give or take!

I have two resolutions in 2009: Run 5K in 30 minutes and get pregnant (hopefully sometime in the 2nd quarter). Wish me luck with both! HA!
